Morgenstern's Returns

The taste of a neighborhood favorite ice cream is alive and well at Gilligan's.

No New York summer is complete without an ice cream pilgrimage, and few names carry the cachet of Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream. Since its original opening in 2014, the downtown institution has earned a cult following for its obsessive approach to small-batch ice cream, where classic flavors are refined and unexpected combinations become instant favorites. Think Burnt Honey Vanilla, Vietnamese Coffee, Pistachio, or Salted Pretzel Caramel—each scoop crafted with the same precision and creativity that defines New York’s best kitchens. Equal parts nostalgic soda fountain and contemporary culinary landmark, Morgenstern’s has become woven into the fabric of downtown life.

When the flagship location Houston St closed, Gilligan’s thought it was the perfect time to bring some of Morgenstern’s unique flavors to West Broadway. We’re now serving up Nick’s It Ice Cream Sandwiches in both strawberry and banana flavors to help you cool off this summer. We’ve made it easy to grab a summertime favorite after indulging with seafood classics, fresh pizzas, and frozen cocktails.

In the meantime, Morgenstern’s has also opened up a new shop on Rivington Street that continues to draw neighborhood regulars, in-the-know food lovers, and curious visitors searching for one of the city’s sweetest rituals. It’s the kind of place that rewards lingering—cone in hand, wandering the Lower East Side before sunset or making an after-dinner stop on a warm summer evening. In a city that never stops reinventing itself, Morgenstern’s remains a reminder that some of New York’s most memorable experiences are also its simplest: perfectly made ice cream, enjoyed under the downtown sunshine.
